ELECTRIC COCONUT SHREDDER IS HERE TO STAY!

Hi Guys,

So I come from a traditional Kerala household, I have lived in many countries outside of India but I have been very fortunate that my family had always incorporated Vegetarian South Indian food as a staple in our diet. Hence my love for all things coconut! J

Now, though I love my coconut Chutneys, Erisseries, Pulisseries, Aviyals, kuttucurries….I absolutely hate shredding coconut the traditional way…with traditional tools…especially when you are short of time and u still want to make one of those south Indian yummies in a hurry.

A random browsing through one of the online shopping portals one day got me to buy this beauty…an electric coconut shredder! Worked well for me so I thought I would share!

I have to warn the first time user that it will take a little getting used to…as the motor speed kinda takes you by surprise. But nothing to fret, you will get your money’s worth when you get the proper grip of your halved coconut shell and the tact to use the machine.

So this is my tip, once you have halved the coconut shell and de-husked it completely…

1.   Lock in your shredder (turning the suction valve at the bottom of the machine) to a clean surface, plugin n power;

2.   Keeping your left hand (for a right handed person) on the top of the dome (housing the motor) allowing your left thumb to control the on/off switch. Practice switching ON and OFF with your left thumb a couple of times before shredding anything. Once you are comfortable maneuvering the switch and familiar with the speed…it’s time to shred that coconut!

3.   Now, your right hand (for a right handed person/prominent hand) is free to grip the halved coconut shell. Keeping a firm grip on the coconut ease towards the ON motor to shred the side of the coconut shell u require. You don’t need to apply any addition force or push but you do need to grip the coconut strongly in place all the while keeping your other hand on the dome. Be CAREFUL! DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YOU!  AND REMEMBER…I take no responsibility for my naïve opinions or your actions!

·      Operates on only one speed*

* I did find a variation of the same product with 3-speed switch, I was hesitant to buy that as I was not sure how the motor would hold up over time with speed variations…But if you are interested I will leave a link here. If you do buy this variation, let me know if u like it!

My Recommendation – Buy! Buy! Buy!

I totally recommend buying this for any Vegetarian/ South Indian/ Thai kitchen/ anyone who uses fresh coconut regularly in their kitchen.
